Fort Worth, TX - On a sunny Saturday afternoon at Doskocil Stadium, the Vikings (5-6) jumped on the Lions early and often in route to an easy 49-0 opening round playoff victory. The Vikings led 43-0 at the half and the entire second half was played with a running clock.
Sophomore running back Kewan Lacy got the Vikings on the board early in the first quarter running one in from fifteen yards out. Lacy would also score on a 55 yard run later in the second quarter. Lacy would finish the game just shy of 100 yards rushing, adding to his impressive sophomore campaign.
The Vikings also scored through the air, as senior quarterback TJ Williams connected with senior wide receiver Skyler Patterson from 55 yards down the left sideline. Williams, who has been electric this season on the ground, completed all four of his passes on the afternoon as well. Williams also ran in a short touchdown run from two yards out in the first quarter as well.
Running backs DK Smittick and Reggie Collins also scored in the second quarter as the Vikings continued to dominate the Lions in all facets of the game.
Senior backup quarterback Jeremiah Bledsoe scored from five yards early in the third quarter to push the score to 49-0. The Vikings would melt away the rest of the game, setting up a regional playoffs contest vs Midland Christian.
The Vikings defeated the Mustangs in Midland earlier this season, 48-28. The outcome of the regular season matchup was later ruled a forfeit, giving the Mustangs the victory in the win-loss column.
Saturday’s playoff game will be played at Wylie High School in Abilene. Kickoff is slated for 6 pm.
